Haldórsvík - Víkartindur

Haldórsvík hiking
Departure from the village of Haldórsvík, situated at the northernmost point of the island of Streymoy. In Haldórsvík you will find the remarkable octagonal church. The alterpiece is also distinctive. It represents the Last Supper where the Apostles’ faces are replaced by the faces of living puplic figures from the Faroe Islands.
The guide will lead you along the hiking path up to Línastíggj which is a rock face that you are going to pass through. After climbing the rock face there will be a short break to give you the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful nature and the view of the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, Slættaratindur. While walking up to Línastíggj you will witness the tremendous work that our ancestors have left behind them. Hundreds of beautiful terrace cultivations.
From here, you will walk along the old path between Haldórsvík and the village of Saksun, which is marked by cairns. Víkatindur is about 703 metres high and it is shaped like a pyramid which makes the view from the summit incredible beautiful – glorious in every 360°.
If the weather permits it, there will be an oppourtunity to climp up to the summit.
The hike continues down to Víkavatn. Víkavatn is a big lake which´s water runs down to the gorgeous waterfall, Fossá - the lagest waterfall in the Faroe Islands. You will walk down to the waterfall, where you will have the opportunity to buy coffee and something nice to eat.
Shortly afterwards you will arrive back in the charming village of Haldórsvík.
Before departure to Víkatind, you will have the opportunity to buy a lunch packet with traditional Faroese food.
The hike is about 7-10 km long.
